Repair of scars on golf course greens

Due to large passenger flow, unsightly green surface caused by untimely repair of green ball scars or incorrect repair methods, the green as the core of the golf course has always been an important element in judging the excellence of a golf course. As the focus of everyone’s attention, the green surface The green is fragile. On the one hand, the green is the most heavily trampled area on the course every day. As long as the player is a golfer, his goal is to attack the green, and walk back and forth on the green to determine the best line and putt. On the other hand, the function of the green is to give guests the best putting experience. In order to pursue faster ball speed, the height of the green is generally maintained at about 3-5mm. Botanically speaking, the height of the above-ground part is directly limited. The length and health of the roots are directly related to the quality and stress resistance of the grass.

It can be seen that green grass is extremely fragile. In order to have a higher quality green, it not only requires careful care by professionals, but also requires maintenance from front-line employees to ensure a healthy and smooth green.

Ball scar is a problem for well-run golf courses. The occurrence of ball scar causes the growth of the lawn to deviate from its original position. Severe ball scar causes the grass roots and root crown to be interrupted. Botanically speaking, the growth of lawn is centered on the root crown. If the root crown is not damaged, the lawn can recover and grow new leaves. However, if the ball scar is large and the scar is deep, it will damage the roots of the lawn. If the crown is removed, the lawn will basically be unable to recover.

The caddy is the person responsible for repairing ball scars, and the number of ball scars is directly related to the caddy’s responsibility. Of course, there are other factors. The quality of the golf population varies. Some guests will not give caddies time to repair the green, so it is understandable that the ball scars are not repaired in time. However, repairs should be carried out during the later repair process organized by the operations department.

After consultation with senior workers in the lawn department, we found that repairing ball marks on the green needs to be divided into the following steps:

1. Use a green fork to pick out the excess sand and dead turf in the ball scar;

2. Squeeze the surrounding turf toward the removed cavity;

3. Use multi-angle extrusion around the ball scar (about 1 inch away) to restore the turf to a uniform and flat surface;

4. Pour a small amount of water and step on the green to make it smooth as before.

The greens restored after the above steps are basically the same in terms of functionality and aesthetics as before. As long as fertilizers-(Recommended Use KASHN Green Sand Spreader) and growth promoters are added, the lawn can quickly return to the ideal density.
