Prevention and control of Curvularia leaf blight in lawns

Distribution and harm of Curvularia leaf blight
Due to management negligence and other reasons, the lawn grows in a poor hard environment and is prone to disease. In addition to infecting grasses of the subfamily of Artemisia, Curvularia will infect grasses of the subfamily of Pooideae, such as bluegrass, meadow bluegrass, fine-leaved fescue, Canada bluegrass, ryegrass, etc.

Harm: The diseased lawn is weak, thin, and has irregular dead grass spots. The grass columns inside the dead grass spots are thin and short, and appear gray and dead. The diseased leaves of meadow bluegrass and fine-leaved fescue change from yellow to brown from the tip to the base, and then to gray, until the entire leaf dies. Different types of pathogens cause different symptoms. For example, when Curvularia crescentus infects meadow bluegrass, the lesions on the diseased leaves are oval or fusiform, the middle of the lesions are gray, the surroundings are brown, and there are yellow halos on the outside. When the leaves are covered with lesions, they die.
Conditions for Curvularia leaf blight

Temperature: It is easy to occur when the high temperature reaches about 30 degrees in a high humidity environment.

Objects of infection: Infect grass that is experiencing high temperature adversity or growth stops due to high temperature. Grass, various cereal crops, and grass weeds. Poorly grown, poorly managed, and weakly grown lawns. It can occur in humid environments and excessive nitrogen fertilizers.

Method of transmission: Spread with wind and rain.

Prevention and treatment of Curvularia leaf blight

Seeds: Choose seeds with strong disease resistance and disease-free grasses, and mix different varieties of grass seeds.

Sowing and fertilization: Cover the soil appropriately when sowing, pay attention to the management of seedlings, apply nitrogen fertilizer reasonably, avoid excessive application in early spring and midsummer, and increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Irrigation: Irrigation should be carried out in the morning, avoid irrigation in the evening, irrigate deeply and thoroughly, reduce frequent irrigation, and avoid water accumulation on the lawn.

Mowing: Pay attention to the mowing height, the minimum is 5 to 6 cm.

Environment: Remove the residual leaves of diseased and dead grasses in time after pruning, and clean the dead grass layer frequently.
Treatment measures for Curvularia leaf disease

When sowing, mix the seeds with an appropriate amount of triadimefon wettable powder or 50% thiram wettable powder. Spray the lawn with fungicide in time for prevention and control in the early stage of the disease.
