Although lawn grass is perennial, its life span is relatively short. We should take necessary technical measures to extend the life span of the lawn as much as possible. Renewal and rejuvenation is an important care task to ensure the longevity of the lawn. The following methods can be adopted:
Strip renewal method: For grasses with stolons and segmented roots, such as buffalo grass, zoysia grass, bermudagrass, etc., after growing to a certain age, the roots of the grass will be dense and aging, and the spreading ability will be degraded. You can dig 50 cm wide every 50 cm. Add peat soil or compost soil to a strip, and re-pad the empty strip of land. It will be full in one or two years, and then dig out the remaining 50 cm. This cycle repeats, and it can be fully renewed every four years.
Root removal and renewal method 1. Due to soil compaction, which causes lawn degradation, we can regularly use a hole punch to make many holes in the lawn ground on the established lawn. The depth of the hole is about 10 cm, and fertilizer is applied into the hole to promote the growth of new roots. In addition, you can also use a nail barrel with a tooth length of three to four centimeters to roll it, which can also loosen the soil and cut off old roots. Then spread fertilizer soil on the lawn to promote the germination of new shoots and achieve the purpose of renewal and rejuvenation.
2. For some plots with thick hay layer, compacted soil, uneven density of turfgrass, and long growth period, rotary tillage and root-breaking cultivation measures can be adopted. The method is to use a rotary tiller to rotate it once, and then water and fertilize. This not only achieves the effect of cutting off old roots, but also allows the lawn grass to sprout many new seedlings.
Replanting turf: For minor baldness or local weed encroachment, remove the weeds and replant them in a timely manner by collecting seedlings from other places. The turf should be pruned before transplanting, and the turf should be firmly planted after replanting to ensure that the turf and soil are closely combined.
One-time renewal method: If the lawn is degraded and bald by more than 80%, it can be plowed with a tractor and replanted. After planting, strengthen maintenance and management, and the replanted lawn will soon rejuvenate.
