How to build a lawn

At the beginning of the lawn establishment, the land should be organized according to the requirements of various lawns. For selected lawns, it is usually plowed deeply to 20-30 cm. If the soil quality is too poor, it can be plowed to less than 30 cm. During soil preparation, base fertilizers such as manure, compost, peat and other organic fertilizers can be applied at the same time. Decomposed human feces or plant ash can also be used, but the two should not be applied at the same time. Pay attention to applying more nitrogen fertilizer to the lawn. In order to make the grass strong, you should also apply potassium fertilizer, such as potassium sulfate, plant ash, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. When preparing and fertilizing the land, pay attention to the leveling of the land, loosen the topsoil, and flatten it with a roller to make it compact. Potholes must be filled in, otherwise water will accumulate, which will cause the death of the lawn and is not conducive to pruning.

How to establish a lawn:

Before establishing a lawn, lawn plants must first be propagated and then planted using various methods. Here are several propagation and planting methods.

1. Sowing method

Generally done in autumn or spring, sowing can also be done in summer. However, most grass seeds have poor germination in hot weather, so when sowing in summer, they often fail in whole or in part. Cold-type grass seeds are generally better sown in the autumn, while warm-type grass types are usually sown in the spring. However, the optimum sowing period for lawns also varies with different grass types. In principle, after sowing and before fully taking root, water should be frequently kept to keep the soil moist, otherwise the grass seeds will not germinate easily. Seeds that are difficult to germinate should be treated by soaking them in 0.5% NaOH solution. After 24 hours, wash them with clean water and dry them before sowing. This will help improve the germination rate of seeds. In addition, in order to make the seedlings emerge neatly and have a high germination rate, it is recommended to germinate first and then sow. The germination method is the same as the germination method of grass flower seeds.

2.Stem sowing method

The stem sowing method (fertilizer spreader)can be used for grass species that are prone to stolons, such as bermudagrass, carpet grass, zoysia tenuifolia, creeping bentgrass, etc. This method is to dig up the turf, shake off the soil attached to the roots or rinse with water, and then tear the roots and cut them into 5-10cm long segments; or use a knife to directly cut off the above-ground stems and cut them into 5-10cm long segments. A paragraph has at least one section. Spread small stem sections evenly on the soil, then cover with fine soil about 1 cm thick, press lightly, and spray water immediately-KASHIN Turf spray. From now on, spray water once a day in the morning and evening, and gradually reduce the number of water sprays after the roots take root. If the cut planting sections cannot be seen immediately, they can be placed in a small basket, covered with sphagnum moss or damp cloth, and placed in a cool place where they can be left for several days. Before sowing the stem segments, the soil must be sprayed with herbicides to remove impurities, and the soil must be finely leveled.

Stem sowing can be done in the spring when the grass seeds begin to germinate, or in the fall. Because it takes 3 months for stems to be sown in spring and 2 months to grow into a good lawn after sowing in autumn, it is better to sow in autumn. For stems with a stem volume of 1m2, it is appropriate to sow 5-10m2.The advantage of the stem sowing method is that it can obtain pure grass seeds and obtain turf with uniform purity.

3. Planting method

After digging up the turf, loosen the turf, cut off the turf that is too long, and plant it in holes or strips at a certain distance to make it even. For example, when Zoysia tenuifolia is planted separately, it can be planted in strips at a distance of 20-30cm. For every 1m2 of grass planted, 5-10m2 can be planted. After planting, suppress it and irrigate it fully. In the future, be careful not to dry out the soil and strengthen management. After planting, the grass can be covered with soil in one year. If you want to quickly form turf, the distance between strips should be shortened.

4. Laying method

When using this method of laying lawns and hoping to quickly form a lawn, there are the following methods.

(1)Dense paving method

The dense paving method is also called the full paving method, that is, the entire ground is covered with turf. Cut the turf into squares of 30cm x 30cm, 4-5cm thick. It should not be too thick to avoid being too heavy and inconvenient when planting. When laying turf, a distance of 1-2cm should be left at the turf joints. Use a roller weighing about 500-1000kg to press and flatten the grass surface so that the grass surface is level with the surrounding soil surface. In this way, the turf and soil are closely connected to avoid drought and the turf is easy to grow. Sod should be fully watered before and after planting. If there are lower areas on the grass surface, cover them with loose soil to make them smooth so that grass seeds can still penetrate the soil surface in the future.

For grass species with well-developed stolons, such as bermudagrass, zoysia tenuifolia, etc., when planting, the turf can be loosened into a mesh, and then covered with soil and compacted, and a lawn can be formed in a short period of time.

(3) Article spreading method

Cut the turf into long strips 6-12cm wide and plant them with a row spacing of 20-30cm. It took half a year for the strips of turf to be fully connected. The management after planting is the same as the inter-paving method.

(4) Dot paving method

Cut the turf into squares of 6-12cm in length and width, and plant them at a distance of 20-30cm. This method is often used for grass species such as Manila and Taiwan Green. Other precautions are the same as those for the interpaving method.
