Watering is the most important and frequent maintenance work in golf courses. Since most of the current mainstream high-end golf course lawns are built on sand layers, high-frequency watering is essential in many cases. At present, automatic or semi-automatic sprinkler irrigation systems are mostly used, which can greatly improve work efficiency, but at the same time, they often cause some problems. The most common thing is that the hills are still dry, and the fairways and low-lying areas may have accumulated water (some places with higher fairways or thicker sand cover are also often dry). In this case, the following measures can be taken:
1. Set the watering time for the fairway area (or flat area) and the high grass area (hill area) respectively according to the differences in terrain and flat bed. For example, set the watering time for the fairway area for 3 minutes and the high grass area for 6 minutes.
2. Set up drainage
Installing blind drains in low-lying areas or areas with poor drainage is an effective measure to solve water accumulation.
3.Manual supplementary watering
Due to the influence of wind and sprinkler irrigation’s own flow and pressure, some areas covered by sprinkler irrigation are short of water at certain times and require artificial supplementary watering. In these drought-stricken areas, the lawn will appear black and dark green in the early stages of drought. The phenomenon of lack of green and withered yellow is relatively obvious and can be easily distinguished by the human eye. Artificial supplementary watering is feasible. Especially in the young grassland stage, the upright tall fescue, bluegrass and the like do not grow quickly as quickly as bentgrass and other stolons. There are often bald patches in the tall grass area during the young grassland stage. Artificial supplementary watering is the best way to replenish the grassland. The best care for planted lawns is to avoid overwatering with sprinkler irrigation in other normal areas.
4. Flat bed improvement
For some higher drought areas, you can add an appropriate amount of peat and organic fertilizer, and the improvement effect will be obvious, but avoid excessive use.
