As a new form of landscaping, golf course landscaping plays an increasingly important role in golf courses. However, unlike ordinary landscaping, the landscaping of golf courses must not only focus on aesthetic landscapes, but also meet the requirements of golf and not hinder the normal development of sports. This puts higher requirements on the planting and daily maintenance of golf course landscaping plants. The author discusses with you the differences between the planting and maintenance of general greening based on the experience accumulated in the greening planting, maintenance and management of golf courses over the past few years.
1. The spacing between trees should be sparse rather than dense
Normal golf hitting activities are completed on the lawn, so the lawn is the protagonist of the golf course. Trees are mainly distributed in areas outside the fairway, such as high grass areas and non-hitting areas. One of the functions of golf course trees is to enhance the safety of playing golf and make the landscape of the golf course clear and varied. If the spacing between trees in the high grass area is too dense, the dense shade formed will not only affect the normal growth of lawn grass, increase the difficulty and cost of lawn maintenance and management, and reduce the quality of the lawn to a certain extent, but also be unfavorable for the passage and operation of lawn and tree maintenance and management facilities. Individual trees planted in the fairway are mostly tall trees, usually planted alone, mainly to enhance the landscape, mark the distance or increase the difficulty of hitting the ball. Generally, small shrubs cannot be planted densely, otherwise the ball will fall into it and it will be difficult to find, which is not in line with the rules of golf.
2. Planting with foreign soil and good drainage
The soil for planting golf courses is different from that in other places. During the construction of the golf course, the surface mature soil in many areas was destroyed due to construction needs. In addition, in order to maintain the micro-topography of the fairway, the fairway is generally fully rolled, causing serious compaction of the soil. In addition, the surface of the fairway is generally paved with a 15 cm to 20 cm sand layer and organic fertilizer and a small amount of fertile soil are added to facilitate drainage and good growth of lawn grass. Therefore, when planting seedlings, it is necessary to dig as large and deep planting holes as possible according to the planting specifications, and replace all the poor and compacted original soil in the planting holes with planting soil, plant foreign soil and do a good job of drainage to facilitate the survival and normal growth of seedlings.
3. Apply fertilizer frequently and in large quantities
Compared to garden seedlings growing in other places, the soil of the court is too poor and hardened. Therefore, during the maintenance of seedlings, it is necessary to ensure sufficient supply of fertilizers. According to the growth status of seedlings, timely fertilization should be applied to make the seedlings grow and take shape quickly. The author learned that there was a court where the seedlings planted in 3 years basically did not grow due to untimely fertilization. Instead, the growth became worse and worse until they died.
4. Watering varies from place to place
Watering seedlings is something that needs special attention in the maintenance of court landscaping. Courts are generally equipped with sprinkler systems to meet the need for frequent watering of lawns. When watering the lawn, the neighboring trees are generally supplemented with water.
5. Pest and disease control should be synchronized with the lawn
In order to maintain the normal growth of the lawn and prevent or reduce the harm of pests and diseases, the court needs to frequently apply fungicides, insecticides and other pesticides. Correspondingly, timely prevention and control of seedling diseases and pests, especially insect pests, should also be carried out. If seedlings are not prevented and controlled in time, some pests will turn to seedlings because they cannot feed on lawn grass, causing serious damage to seedlings or even irreparable losses.
6. Reduce the impact of seedlings on lawns, hitting balls, etc., and increase pruning efforts
The seedlings on the court need to be pruned frequently for three reasons. First, pruning can keep the seedlings in a beautiful shape, so that they can be integrated with other parts of the court to form a beautiful landscape and bring spiritual enjoyment to golfers; second, it prevents seedlings from excessively shading the lawns under them and affecting the growth of lawn grass; third, it prevents individual seedlings that grow too fast in the fairway area from blocking the ball line and affecting hitting balls. For trees that grow poorly or even die for some reason, they should be cleaned up and transplanted with new seedlings in time to avoid destroying the overall landscape effect of the court.
